紙舟(paper boat)に着想を得て100%紙で制作された、大海原を旅する女海賊の日除け帽。

海上の強い日差しを遮る広いつばと、長期間の航海によってくたびれたような質感を持つ。紙の藍染によって海の豊かな色彩を、折りとシワを利用して、気候によって常時変化する波の揺らぎを表現した。海とそこに生きる海賊をモチーフとした意匠的な魅力と、紙から作り出す技術的な魅力とを併せ持つ作品。

・藍染に関して布製品を染める際の手法「絞り染め」を参考に、紙を一枚一枚染め方を変えて藍染することで、模様やムラの違いを作り出している。実験により12種類の藍染紙を作り、その中から数種類を選定して使用した。

・整形に関して「折り紙」の技法を利用し、全体のデザインと制作を行った。本体は「薄葉紙」というワイシャツや靴の包装に使い捨てで使用される紙を主材料としている。紙同士の水素結合、そして植物性の糊による接着と仕上げにより100%紙製の帽子を実現した。最大サイズのカット紙を切断せず使用することで端材も出ない。また、薄い紙の重層には、帽子に厚みと柔らかさを加える意図もある。

目指すビジュアルから実験を通じて紙の特性を知り、そこからまたデザインが育っていく。その繰り返しから生み出された帽子である。

Indigo dyeing conjures the colors of the sea, while folds and creases suggest the motion of waves. Made primarily from tissue paper, constructed with origami folding, and achieved as 100% paper through hydrogen bonding between sheets with a plant-based adhesive — with zero material waste.
