A membrane tensegrity structure: a 3D-printed pattern is applied to pre-tensioned fabric, and releasing the tension makes the form pop up into shape.

Made using "FreeformOrigami," software developed by Tomohiro Tachi, which converts a polygon mesh into a developable origami pattern; part of the fold lines are then converted into rods (the compression elements). The structure is unstable at its boundary on its own, but sewing the boundary edges together closes it into a stable solid. Exhibited in "Tsunagaru Katachi Ten 03," hosted and co-hosted by the University of Tokyo.
